Biography

Gautam Hazarika is Singapore based and after being a banker most of his life, now researches World War II in Southeast Asia. His focus is on lesser-known stories such as the Indian army, the anti-Japanese resistance and war crimes trials, and has spoken about them at museums in Singapore and WWII conferences in the UK.

Gautam has been published in Singapore’s Biblioasia and Business Times, India’s www.scroll.in, Hong Kong’s Arts of Asia, the UK’s The Book Collector, Private Library Association and Malayan Volunteer Group (MVG), and the Southeast Asia Library Group. He had also featured in a Channel News Asia documentary on Singapore’s Karikal Mahal. His research has been published by the Researching FEPOW History Group and MVG. The Forgotten Indian Prisoners of World War II, being published by Penguin in the Indian sub-continent and Pen & Sword UK in the Rest of the World in 2025, is his first book.
