Aspects of Crime: Sharpe Books

It’s a great privilege to be one of the first publishers to sign-up with Aspects of Crime, the new magazine, website and podcast devoted to crime fiction, which will launch in September of this year. Our partnership with Aspects of History has proved fruitful over the years, with our small investment paying dividends. Aspects of History, headed up by its editor Oliver Webb Carter, has been invaluable in generating additional coverage and sales for an array of our titles. Although Sharpe Books is one of the leading UK independent publishers – representing numerous bestselling authors and having established productive relationships with the likes of Bookbub and Amazon –  it is still important for us and our authors to develop the type of coverage and network that Aspects of History has furnished us with over the past five years.

Sharpe Books like authors who enjoy being authors, who engage with other writers and the readerships that the Aspects sites provide. We all like to sell books. The relationship that our authors have with Aspects of History has also encouraged them to reach out to other outlets, with the editor sometimes facilitating introductions.

As such, we are greatly looking forward to working with Paul Burke, the Editor of Aspects of Crime. Paul has an uncommon knowledge and enthusiasm for the genre of crime writing, especially in the sphere of spy fiction. Not only has he been the accomplished host of the CrimeTime podcast, but Paul is due to bring out the much-anticipated Encyclopaedia of Spy Fiction in 2026.

As well as hosting Publisher Platforms, the site will also be a home to Author Platforms, promoting books by new and established writers alike. Now more than ever, writers need to be pro-active rather than passive in generating visibility and sales.

I am told that Aspects of Crime will carry on the tradition of arranging dinners and drinks with its authors. Both Sharpe Books and myself have forged some great relationships over a glass of wine or three, due to our association with Aspects of History. I am confident that Aspects of Crime will foster the same fun and collegiate spirit.

Crime fiction can and does pay. Here’s looking forward to September and raising a glass, or four, to the launch of Aspects of Crime.
