A Fairytale for Christmas – Review
Irish – and English – eyes were smiling at the Dominion Theatre on Sunday evening as the venue hosted Fairytale For Christmas, a celebratory show featuring Irish standards and festive hits. There may have been no discernible plot to link the songs, but that didn’t much matter.
The show is full of pace, the performers full of energy. Highlights included rousing renditions of Galway Girl (originally by Steve Earle), Seven Drunken Nights and, of course, Fairytale of New York. There were more dancing girls than in a Two Ronnies Christmas Special. Each possessed more moves than a chess grandmaster. There were also more costume changes than a Taylor Swift concert, and more skirt twirling than Bucks Fizz in their pomp.
The audience clearly enjoyed themselves, feeding off the enthusiasm of the cast. The crowd were full of Xmas cheer, as well as several house doubles.
Both to pad out this review – and to give the dancers a deserved namecheck as an early Christmas present – special note should go to the dance troupe: Georgia Amery, Rachel Adele Bolsworth, Katie Tone, Erin Dallas, Isabelle Hazeldine and Hannah Rose Pendlebury. A special cheer seemed to erupt every time they sashayed onto the stage.
Should you want a fun, festive evening full of good cheer and good songs then I advise you to step into Christmas and book some tickets.
